online survey: associating sounds with images
Dear all,
i'd like to invite you to take part in a new study for the visualization of textural sounds, part of a research project at the Austrian Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI).
http://grrrr.org/test/texvis
The goal is to design musical interfaces to intuitively browse large collections of textural sounds. Its theoretical foundation lies in multi-model interaction, which exploits interrelations between the different human senses.
It takes only a couple of minutes (typically 5 minutes for 30 sounds, 15 minutes for all 100).
I'll present some results at the DAFx satellite workshop "Versatile Sound Models for Interaction in Audio-Graphic Virtual Environments" on Friday.
The online form is based on HTML5, it should work properly on Firefox, Chrome or Safari web browsers. IE9 might work, but is untested.
Thanks for your participation!
all the best,
Thomas Grill, Vienna, Austria
Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in this research project. It tries to devise adequate graphical representations of sound textures. The ultimate goal is to build musical interfaces that enable quick access to sounds in large archives.
You will be asked to associate some randomly chosen textural sounds to various graphical representations. Proceed simply in an intuitive manner. If possible you should use headphones or good-quality loudspeakers (at max. 2 meters distance).
The form is available in German or English language ¨C please choose the language you are most comfortable with. You can pause and continue the process as often as you want ¨C grading one sound takes only a few seconds.
For statistical reasons you should grade at least 30 sounds ¨C in total there are 100 sounds available.
Many thanks for your contribution!

Willkommen!
Danke f¨¹r Ihr Interesse an diesem Forschungsprojekt.
Vielen Dank f¨¹r Ihren Beitrag!
Thomas Grill (OFAI)
